An exciting, challenging and rewarding opportunity has become available at one of the local government bodies, to work as a Litigation and Housing Litigation Lawyer, working within a supportive and cohesive team. This is a great opportunity for a qualified litigation lawyer, either from the public or private sectors, who either has experience of supervising a small team, or the ambition to do so. We are ideally after someone with 5+ PQE, who has the experience to be able to lead and motivate three junior lawyers within the team, with the support and guidance of two senior leaders within the legal team. Your work will span a variety of areas of law including housing, environmental health, planning enforcement, debt recovery, homelessness and other contentious areas. You will prepare and conduct cases in the civil and criminal courts and tribunals, negotiate settlements, and advise colleagues, Members, and external partners on legal issues. You'll have the opportunity to work within a team and organisation which values professionalism, integrity, and continuous improvement. You will have the opportunity to contribute to service development, help shape best practice, and play a key role in resolving some of the most significant legal issues facing the organisation and the communities it serves.

Experience and skills sought:
- Someone with a proven track record in handling a range of contentious matters, ideally within civil, commercial and/or criminal (it can be one of these areas)
- An experienced and confident legal professional who is ready to take the next step into a leadership role
- You will be comfortable with appearing before the civil and criminal courts and tribunals, instructing Counsel where required, as well as demonstrating the ability to communicate complex legal issues with clarity.
- Someone who can balance technical expertise with strong interpersonal skills who can naturally mentor and support others, and take pride in setting high standards for your team.
- Someone highly organised, resilient under pressure, and able to manage a demanding workload with professionalism and care. Above all, someone who values high quality legal practice, with the determination to deliver positive outcomes for both internal clients and the wider community.
Hours and benefits:
- 09:00 - 17:00 Monday to Friday, with flexibility
- Hybrid working, with an expectation to work in the office for a minimum of 40% of the week (2 days per week, if full time)
