One of Exeter's modern, ambitious and supportive regional law firms is looking for a Commercial Litigation Lawyer to join one of their specialist teams. The successful candidate will be a qualified solicitor or member of CILEX, ideally with no less than two years PQE in litigation or commercial dispute resolution, including consumer-related disputes, and have experience managing a varied caseload of contentious matters. You will possess excellent drafting, analytical and communication skills, together with strong commercial awareness, attention to detail, and a client-focused approach. An effective communicator, you will be able to build and maintain strong relationships with clients and colleagues alike. You will also be motivated, collaborative, and eager to develop your career within a successful and growing team. The team spends around 60% of their time working on litigation, while the rest of their time is spent acting as an advisory to a number of clients across the tourism sector, with typical claims ranging from £100-300K in value. The work can be complex and challenging, but with great levels of support and knowledge within the team, to enable someone to learn and develop into this commercial litigation work. While the sector is somewhat niche, the work won't pigeonhole you into a certain sector and will offer lawyers the transferrable skills to be able to conduct commercial litigation across different sectors in future.
The team is made up of six other qualified lawyers, as well as five paralegals, all working cohesively to achieve their goals. The ideal candidate will have circa 1-4 PQE and will work closely with two other people at a similar PQE level within the team. Targets are shared across the team and the team generally work their contracted hours and not much more, aside from the odd occasion where it's required, so the work-life balance is very healthy, allowing you to enjoy your evenings.
You will become part of a team with extensive experience across all types of court proceedings, acting in matters before the High Court, District Registries, County Courts and Tribunals. Working closely with experienced litigators and advocates, you will gain exposure to a broad range of work and, where hearings cannot be avoided, support clients through every stage of the litigation process. You will work on matters from their earliest stages through to resolution, helping clients achieve commercially focused outcomes.
